Operation Bum Injection is an exploration of the self-consciously perilous languages of over the counter pornography.
Mousetraps are baited with throwaway clippings from cheap top-shelf porn, in which the bait offered carries with it an attractive danger as well as the evident hazard of the trap.
The tangible appeal of cheap print porn is at odds with the sharp pain threatened by the trap, perhaps questioning the balance of power projected within conventional voyeurism.
The decision to reproduce the women at life-size confronts the public with the stylised language of mainstream porn: the unnatural poses of the models alongside their everyday appearances.
The domestic reproduction of the work on an inkjet printer further degrades the poor quality of the original porn, highlighting its flaws and leaving the work devoid of any graphic glamour. Associations with this type of reproduction are closer to waste bins and railway sidings than art galleries.
The many layers of tension within the piece are created by intriguing relationships between many facets of the work, not least the saucy humour of the narrative with the aggressive clipped collage of the title (itself recovered from the pages of the original magazines).
The final discharged trap wryly completes the series by acknowledging the humour implicit in a metaphorical reading of the source material.

Since its inception, my work has been driven by a desire to deconstruct aspiration. I have attacked archetypal images and figures of success and desirability. The seductive but false lives of Rock stars, soldiers and playboys have been explored through a slick visual language of desirability. Sham scenarios have been embellished with stylish and stylised objects, acting as beautiful meticulously handmade and covetable accessories.
