I put raw human sexuality in the spotlight. It is an unavoidable keystone of our existence bound up in our folklore & traditions. Given my Czech origins this work is actively steeped in Bohemian symbols and myths.

 

Beginning with improvised tableaux vivant and ritualistic narrative-free performance. Costumes, props, models and makeup are my tools. Through the medium of photography, performance, film and screen-printing I visually broadcast this poetic exploration of my unconscious to you.

 

Like in fairy-tales, my work holds beauty alongside the dark & sinister. Beyond the simple celebration of the patterns of our ancestors, I seek to unashamedly unveil their taboos.

About The Artist

 

Tereza Buskova was born in 1978 in Prague, Czech Republic. There has been a strong creative influence from her father, an art director. Having completed secondary education at a junior Prague Art School, she moved to the UK with a sense of naive adventure. Following the stereotypical challenge of working as an au-pair, it was not until 2001 that she further pursued a formal art education at the University of Northumbria, where she achieved a BA Hons degree in Fine Art and was awarded one year's Fellowship. Informally she has been learning even more about the fight to exist as an innovative female Eastern European born artist in a world that is armed with obstacles. She is proud to have completed her MA in Fine Art Printmaking at the Royal College of Art and is now currently based in London.
